As an update to a post earlier this week, Wynonna Judd‘s husband and drummer Michael Scott “Cactus” Moser‘s left leg was amputated above the knee following a motorcycle accident on Saturday in South Dakota.

The leg was severed at the scene and doctors in Rapid City performed the surgery.

He also underwent surgery to his hand.

In a statement posted at Wynonna.com, the couple expresses their appreciation for “all of the quick medical and police responders as well as the hospital staff and well-wishes from family, friends and fans.”

Judd has canceled her concerts for the next week as a result of the accident. Her next scheduled date is set for August 30 in Michigan.
Wynonna has postponed a series of concerts after her husband Michael Scott "Cactus" Moser, 55, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident late Saturday (Aug. 18) near Hill City, S.D. Moser, who scored four No. 1 country hits in the '80s, as a member of the band Highway 101, plays drums in his wife's band.

Is Chicago radio legend Fred Winston about to make a comeback?

It’s too soon to say for sure, but fans should look for the legendary radio personality to turn up August 26 on WLS-FM (94.7), the Cumulus Media oldies station. The company also owns news/talk WLS-AM (890), the former Top 40 powerhouse where Winston began his Chicago radio career in 1971.

If all goes well, the three-hour guest shot (from 9pm to midnight) could lead to regular work on the station, where Winston would be reunited with longtime friends and colleagues Dick Biondi, John Records Landecker and Greg Brown.

“The plan is to blow the carbon and dust balls out of the pipes that Sunday night and see how it feels and then go from there,” Winston, 66, said from his farm in southwest Michigan. I’ve still got a lot of gas in the tank.”

Except for occasional appearances, he’s been off the air since June 2005 when CBS Radio switched WJMK-FM (104.3) from oldies to Jack FM, shifting Winston and his colleagues to HD Radio and online for a year. “I’ve never been off the air as a performer full time for over five years,” he said. “You would think that in all this time someone would say hmm, Fred Winston, what a marketable brand name.”
“I’ve still got a great passion for radio,” he said. “I love to make people laugh, to entertain. I’m bringing a brand name to the table for WLS. I get to indulge in my passion and they get to benefit from my brand name. It’s a win/win situation.”
Having just announced a new deal with TuneIn, Entercom CEO David Field appears to be one of the few industry holdouts not ready to jump on the iHeartRadio bandwagon. Field said, "sharing our content is a good thing, if the business arrangement makes sense." Field did say he's open to continue the discussions with Clear Channel so the door is not completely closed.
In other Entercom news, Field says he has no interest in the Cox radio stations recently put up for sale noting the stations are in smaller markets that Entercom is not focused on. He said the current focus of the company is bringing down the debt. As of June 30th, Entercom had $6.7 million in cash and $610.8 million in senior debt.
Lady Gaga posted a very personal open letter on her Little Monsters social networking site, in which she touched on her difficult past year. The singer never calls anyone out by name in the letter when she talks about her troubles, but fans can assume that she is probably referring to her split from longtime creative director Laurieann Gibson, and the controversy over her single, "Born This Way," being likened to Madonna's "Express Yourself."
"Today is a really happy day for me. The past year was a challenge, and I'm so happy to have my spirit back," Gaga wrote. "I felt in chains at times. Whether it be the record label disagreeing with me on single choices, or directors who could only create an idea of 'Gaga' or what i've 'done before' and not able to move forward, and there was also of course the incessant dragging of the most important single of my career in dead-beaten-horse-mud. Then there were all the personal moments. Betrayed by lifelong friends, mentors I've had for years suddenly taking advantage of me, and a massive struggle with my body image. I've grown and left most of these things behind, the monsters of fame are very real. But I wanted to thank you for baring with me a little bit."
Elvis Presley's ex-wife Priscilla and their only daughter Lisa Marie stunned a crowd of thousands Wednesday night when they unexpectedly greeted fans who had flocked to Graceland for a candlelight vigil marking the 35th anniversary of the singer's death.
The vigil began Wednesday night after Priscilla Presley and her daughter made the unscheduled and impromptu appearance on a stage set up just inside the walls of Graceland, Elvis' Memphis mansion. Together they briefly thanked the crowd for their undying admiration of the rock `n' roll icon.

It was the first time both women had appeared together at the annual gathering, which became an official event in 1980.
Ron Palillo -- the actor who played Horshack on "Welcome Back, Kotter" -- died earlier this week at his home near Palm Beach, FL from an apparent heart attack ... this according to someone close to the actor.

Palillo was found by his partner of many years Joseph Gramm around 4:00 AM. Gramm called an ambulance and Palillo was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

We're told the heart attack was very unexpected. Palillo was 63.
Geico, which has traditionally been radio’s biggest-volume advertiser each week, is back on top. Media Monitors reports that, after 18 consecutive weeks, The Home Depot slid to No. 4. Geico was No. 1 with 43,136 ads on radio last week, followed by Safelite AutoGlass and Wal-Mart.

Cox Media made a huge announcement that it would be selling off several radio and television properties, including its Birmingham and Greenville, SC clusters, which have high profile, well performing Urban outlets. Since then, there’s been a lot of talk among Urban broadcasters, asking, “Are there any African American broadcasters, or entrepreneurs, who could step up and buy these properties?” And if not, should we be concerned?

Cox Media made the announcement, that it will focus on larger markets and "cross-media collaboration,” meaning it’s selling off its radio and TV-only markets, including radio clusters in Birmingham, Greenville-Spartanburg SC, Hawaii, Louisville, Richmond and Southern Connecticut.

Much of the talk inspired by NBC's coverage so far has been less than glowing. We're only a few days in, and a growing chorus of complaints are aimed at Ryan Seacrest, who seems to have tapped into the deep reservoir of disdain every annoyed sports fan has ever felt about any lightweight, extraneous sideline reporter.
If you think it's hard to get people to watch tape-delayed victories, try selling tape-delayed disappointments.

And for NBC, that's the problem. It has paid $1.18 billion fee to broadcast the Games. It can't make that money back by giving away big-draw events in the close-to-free world that is still the Internet.

Still, if you are going to gather us in prime time to see the Opening Ceremony, then you should show it to us once you have us. Which means not cutting away from a boisterously, Britishly odd opener that was setting new standards for strange, excising a musical tribute in the process, to go to Seacrest. And that certainly means not interrupting Saturday's coverage for a Seacrest interview with Phelps' family that was capped by Seacrest's proclamation that "It's fun to see them in their real lives, because they've got real lives." — who knew?

Is someone trying to undercut him before he can even get started, or is Seacrest's news judgment truly that awful?

All it takes is one comment to ruin your news cycle.

This week the Romney campaign had to contend with the "candidate" making a prediction regarding the London Olympics. He cast doubt on how well the organization was prepared...and it took no time at all for the Mayor of London to respond..

Naturally, the campaign had to react...and QUICKLY. Since Mitt put his foot in it,,,he would be the one to attempt to correct it.

One of Brown's best friends, A.J. Boik, was shot in the chest and died. Brown, who was not physically injured, claims to now suffer from extreme trauma. (Like he is the only one.)

Brown has hired attorney Donald Karpel to represent him. Karpel told website TMZ ... he is targeting 3 defendants.

1. The theater. Karpel claims it was negligent for the theater to have an emergency door in the front that was not alarmed or guarded. It's widely believed Holmes entered the theater with a ticket, propped the emergency door open from inside, went to his car and returned with guns.

2. Holmes' doctors. Karpel says it appears Holmes was on several medications -- prescribed by one or more doctors -- at the time of the shooting and he believes the docs did not properly monitor Holmes.

3. Warner Bros. Karpel says "Dark Knight Rises" was particularly violent and Holmes mimicked some of the action. The attorney says theater goers were helpless because they thought the shooter was part of the movie. Karpel told TMZ, "Somebody has to be responsible for the rampant violence that is shown today.

So..... Lets look at the the three "bad actors" in his claim"

The theater should have done more with ticket paying customers.

The shooters doctors should have monitored the patient. {I doubt Mr Brown has ever had a doctor monitor is day to day activities or conditions.}

The movie is to blame. {The film that premiered at the same time the shooting began In other words the film was violent...the film James Holmes never had a chance to see.}

In the wake of losing a friend, others dying and being wounded the first thing Torrance Brown thought of was money.
Manchester Mediahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15046469213270768507noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4598261520011140130.post-2755171681458590382012-07-20T07:32:00.001-04:002012-07-20T07:32:53.444-04:00Dark Morning Follows Dark Knight Premier Shooting
Fourteen people were killed and at least 50 others wounded early Friday when a gunman opened fire at a midnight screening of the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises" near Denver, authorities and witnesses said.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters that 10 people died at the scene and four others died after being taken to local hospitals. At least 50 other people were injured, Oates said, including a six-year-old girl.
Witnesses said tear gas also went off in the theater.
A 24-year-old male suspect was apprehended in the shopping center's parking lot, Oates said.

The incident occurred in the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center, Aurora is a suburb less than 10 miles east of downtown Denver.
NBC station KUSA-Denver cited a witness as seeing a black-clad 6-foot-tall man wearing a riot helmet, goggles and bullet-proof vest.
However, many people attended the film dressed in Batman-related costumes
The fallout of the “Freeh” Report will be felt in courtrooms
for many years as criminal and civil trials move ahead. In the short term, the question of whether to
keep the statue of Paterno in front of Beaver Stadium has surfaced.

Initially I thought, keep it. He earned it with 60 years of work and
success. He apparently did nothing
criminally wrong and he did report at latest one incident to university officials.
Then it dawned on me that the statue itself will become a target. Before long that huge sculpture will attract
vandals that will potentially do everything from add clothing (panties, bra,
etc) to paint, to trying to possibly blowup the statue itself. From the zealot, to the hurt, the angry, even
the crazy will be drawn to it as surely as the sun will come up in the east.

From an expense standpoint the cost of trying to guard the
Paterno statue around the clock will be expensive. The risk of injury to others
in the event someone tries to blow it up rests with the university. And if nothing else, the statue will become a
lightning rod for all the “bad” that has taken place. In short the nightmare will continue, the bad
news drumbeat will start up EVERY time someone does anything.

In our opinion…..take it down, at least until ALL of the
skeletons are gout of the closet. That’s right…peaches. One of the big debates on radio concerns how to treat the music that stations play.

The current term is "respect the music." The implication is if you talk over the intro or the close of a song you are not showing the song and artist the "respect" they deserve. I've always felt that once I pay for the record I've shown MY respect. Then there is the issue of the artist and songwriter selling the music for commercials.

You've seen and therefore heard the commercials for a variety of company's using popular music as background.

In recent years, there has been a huge increase in the use of "rock" songs making their way to the soundtracks of commercials to help hawk product. Since I wanted to be sure this was more than a quick trend, I did a little research. By little, I mean less than 3 minutes, to reinforce my theory that many artists were sensitive to their creations UNTIL enough dollars were stacked up before them. Now, while you make not agree with that position, I give you a partial list of JUST those songs that fall into the rock category. Nothing from country, or the current pop listings is included.

The next time someone starts to spout off about "respecting the music" I plan to whip out this list and let the debate begin. BTW, I would love to hear your opinion on this. Agree or disagree....makes no difference.
